Inspired by memento mori and the passing of time, an eaten apple withers on a dining table. Drawing on still lives from the Dutch Golden Age, the reminder that life is transient is represented in the symbols of decomposing fruit in the form of a human skull, while a grandfather clock chimes ominously in the background. Mortality is a fact easily forgotten and life is often a gift taken for granted. Let us not forget that the clock is always ticking.
